A great nutrition tip if you’re pregnant is to make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin B12 in your diet. Vitamin B12 is very important because it can reduce the risk of birth defects. Most people aren’t at risk for a B12 deficiency, but women that diet a lot should make sure they get enough B12.

It is important to get enough cobalt in your diet, because it is required for metabolism of the B vitamins, in particular, B12 (also known as cobalamin). It can be found in dark green leafy vegetables like spinach. But, the best sources are organ meats, such as livers, kidneys, and hearts.

Create a list of low-fat, low-carb, high-protein foods that you love and then work to create a small recipe book using your favorite ingredients. Eating the same thing over and over can be quite boring, so look for new and fresh ways to use those healthy ingredients to prepare meals you haven’t tried before.

Simply steaming them for 10 minutes or so is usually plenty to get the right texture and retain the most in flavor and nutrition. Whatever you do, don’t boil your veggies for an extended period of time. This robs them of nutritional value.
